Chiropractic and headaches a review of the literature.

One of the most common complaints seen here in our office is headaches.   It’s no surprise with 47% of adults having some sort of headache disorder according to the world health organization.    Many of our patients along with millions of other patients around the world already know that chiropractic care can relieve their headaches.   With the ground swell of positive reports from patients around the globe researches have recently done a review of published literature to find out just what type of headaches respond best to chiropractic care.

In a review published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics in 2011, 21 published articles were included in there study.   All 21 articles investigated the affects of spinal adjustments on headaches.   After reviewing these previous studies it was concluded that spinal adjustments were highly effective for both migraine headaches as well as cervicogenic headaches! (meaning headaches coming from the neck)

Chiropractic is a very safe and natural way to treat headaches without having to take medication.   Which when you think of it is an odd way to treat what is causing the headache anyways.  If they headache is being caused by a physical problem such as a misalignment in the upper neck or a pinched nerve the best solution is a physical solution such a chiropractic.   A chemical solution such as drugs only masks the symptoms for a short time.   While certainly some headaches are chemical in nature, if you have been suffering from headaches for quite sometime I urge you to give chiropractic a try.
